Places to Lodge at Yosemite National Park
One of the first things that you need to decide upon when choosing a hotel at Yosemite National Park is whether you will stay within the confines of the park, or you would prefer accommodation in its surrounding community. Make sure to note that accommodations inside the camp get booked way ahead or months in advance by people who are going there, so if you are going to the park for your summer holiday, you should have booked your housing from the company that handles accommodations way in advance. Reserving months in advance will assure you that you will have accommodations inside the park. There are people who even book a year in advance to ensure that they will have good accommodations in the park when they go there.
Inside, your choices include 4-star hotels, the Ahwahnee Hotel and campsites in the backcountry. If you prefer to stay in a campsite in the backcountry with your sleeping bag, then a wilderness permit is required from a ranger station. The company that handles housing reservations is where you should make other arrangements for your stay in the park. The Yosemite Lodge at the Falls is another place to stay when in the Yosemite Valley, aside from the Ahwahnee hotel. If you want to stay in tents or cabins, you can go to Camp Curry. Other campsites include Housekeeping Camp which is along the Merced River and other campsites nearby.
The Wawona Hotel, Tuolomne Meadows Lodge, and the White Wolf Lodge can be found outside the Yosemite valley but still inside the park, at the Tuolomne Meadows. The high-country campsites are also places you can stay. Still inside the park, in Wawona, you can find many privately-owned rentals.
Near the gates of the Yosemite National Park, but outside its confines, you can still find more lodgings. The Arch Rock/El Portal Entrance, the Big Oak Flat Entrance on the west, the South Entrance, and the Tioga Pass Entrance on the east, are the four main gates of Yosemite National Park. Along these entrance routes are many types of accommodations.
There are many more accommodations outside the park. But only disadvantage of staying outside the park is that you need to take long drives to go to the park attractions which are inside the park.
Booking for housing outside the camp requires you to call the places individually. Unlike housing reservations inside the park, there is no central place to call outside the park and since these accommodations are not part of any hotel chains, you will have to contact individual lodging places to book your stay. If you are a member of any organization, make sure to ask if they give discounts as some lodgings do.
